Nomination for biz person of ’05 opens
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce opened yesterday the nomination period for its 2005 Business Person of the Year award.
Nominees should be a business person who works in Saipan and is an active member of the community. The winning candidate will be chosen on the basis of what she or he has done in the Chamber, in the business world, and in the larger community.
People can send in their nominations now to info@saipanchamber.com no later than Nov. 30.
When sending in one’s nominee, include a brief write-up of the person’s accomplishments and contributions, both in business and in the community.
Meantime, in yesterday’s meeting of the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, proposed changes to the articles of association were discussed.
Additionally, Elly Stoilova of Pacific Islands Club gave an informative presentation on the potential of Russian tourists, said Chamber executive director Christine Parke, adding that Laurie Peterka also gave an update on the Visitors Channel, which is now billing itself as “Saipan a Go Go.”
Chris Belanger of G4S reported on Garapan Bike Patrol, which will begin in January, she said. This project is a collaborative effort between G4S, Workforce Investment Agency, the Marianas Visitors Authority, and Department of Public Safety.
In other Chamber news, Parke said that the Workforce Development Summit will take place in mid-February. The preparations for the summit are being headed up by Eric Plinske of the Northern Marianas College. The summit aims to make recommendations to get more residents into private business employment. Both Alex Sablan and Parke are chairs of the Summit sub-committees.
The Chamber is also seeking a representative for the February Parenting Month Activities. Parke said the Division of Youth Services has requested a representative from the Commerce to participate in planning for February activities around the theme of parenting and strengthening the family.
