The Superior Court yesterday acquitted a 43-year-old businessman on a charge of sexual abuse of a child.

But Patrick Mendiola Calvo, owner of the Calvo’s Nursery in Susupe, still faces the same charge in another criminal case. In both cases, the alleged victims are sisters.

Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama acquitted Calvo following a jury trial. The jury handed down its “not guilty” verdict yesterday afternoon.

The acquittal pertains to accusations that Calvo touched the private part of one of the victims at the premises of his establishment sometime in April 1997.

In the other case, Lizama said Calvo would face trial in December. The Attorney General’s Office has charged Calvo with having sexual contact with the other alleged victim sometime in January 1998.

The AGO filed both criminal cases in court in 2000.
