Saipan experienced heavy rainfall associated with a tropical storm near Yap, but the Emergency Management Office said the storm was tracking away from the Marianas.

EMO deputy director Mark Pangelinan said yesterday that the storm, the 23rd one originating from the Western Pacific this year, tracked westerly yesterday.

Pangelinan said rainshowers associated with the storm were expected to continue until nighttime but might dissipate today.

The EMO maintained its Monday afternoon weather advisory, which reminded motorists and residents in low-lying areas to take precaution about possible flooding. As of 5pm yesterday, though, the EMO reported no major flooding on the island.

Saipan and Tinian also experienced heavy downpours on Monday.
