New faces in NMI municipal councils

Newcomers are expected to rule the municipal councils in Saipan, Tinian, and Rota in the next two years, based on partial election results.

Only four of the 19 candidates for municipal council member are incumbents. Each council has three available seats.

They are Antonia Tudela and Gregorio Deleon Guerrero of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council, and Mametto M. Ayuyu and Tom Glenn A. Quitugua of the Rota Municipal Council.

No current municipal council member in Tinian is running for reelection.

Initial election results show Marian Tudela on top in the contest for the Saipan and NI Municipal Council with 4,047 votes. She is followed by Angel Hocog with 3,831 votes.

Antonia Tudela is leading fellow incumbent Deleon Guerrero. With 3,805 votes, Antonia Tudela currently enjoy a 459-vote advantage over Deleon Guerrero for the third council seat.

Francisco Rosario, with 3,215 votes, is not far behind from Deleon Guerrero.

In sixth place is Francisco Tudela with 2,586 votes, followed by Pedro Deleon Guerrero with 1,934 votes.

Two non-incumbent candidates have also secured the first two spots in the race for the Rota Municipal Council. They are Joey Anthony Quitugua with 788 votes and Roy James Masga with 630 votes.

Incumbent candidate Ayuyu ranks third with 510 votes, followed by David Atalig with 465 votes and Manuel David Atalig with 455 votes.

The other incumbent candidate, Commonwealth Development Authority chair Tom Glenn A. Quitugua, got the least amount of support at 231 votes.

In the Tinian Municipal Council race, Charlene Lizama is leading with 512 votes. She has a two-vote edge over Francisco Cruz.

Eugenio Henry Villagomez is in third place with 482 votes, followed by Trenton Brian Conner with 463 votes. Joseph San Nicolas has 455 votes and Concepcion Manglona got 441 votes.
