PIC brings back turkey-ball
With the start of the Saipan Softball Association’s Island-Wide League still a couple of weeks away, local lords of the longball can take advantage of the break to form teams for the upcoming 12th Annual Pacific Islands Club Thanksgiving Softball Tournament.
According to tournament coordinator Jon Cramer, the three-day celebration of sluggers gets underway on Thursday, Nov. 17, at Tan Ge Softball Field at the Oleai Sports Complex and continues through to Sunday, Nov. 20.
The PIC in San Antonio will be fielding a team again this year as well, but a power-packed squad from Guam looks to regain their swagger on Saipan by taking the slow-pitch double elimination tournament.
Last year, there was little doubt that No Ka Oi would take the title, but they have yet to be heard from with little more than a week and a half remaining until the monsters of mash fight for cash.
Their absence leaves the door wide open for any number of teams from the CNMI to stop their southernmost counterparts on Saipan’s home turf.
The cost to compete in the tournament is $150 per team and team representatives have exactly one week to beat the deadline with their team fee and maximum 20-player roster by next Tuesday, Nov. 15.
While the winner of tournament stands to take home a substantial amount of cash, a portion of the proceeds will go to the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association.
