A woman who smashed the windshields of her boyfriend’s car pleaded guilty to criminal mischief as part of a plea deal and was sentenced yesterday to eight days in prison.

Superior Court associate judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Amanda O. Kaipat, 23, to a year in prison, all suspended except for eight days, with credit for the eight days she had already served in jail; that means she immediately goes free.

The Office of the Attorney General had charged Kaipat with disturbing the peace and criminal mischief. She agreed to the plea deal; the criminal mischief charge was dropped.

Kaipat will be placed on probation for a year and required to pay a $100 fine, and $25 court assessment fee. She was also required to pay restitution to the victim and to attend anger management classes.

Kaipat broke the front and rear windshields of Christopher R. Dela Cruz’s car on Nov. 1, 2011, on Saipan in an alleged fit of jealousy. The car was parked in front of an apartment in Chalan Kanoa.

Last March, Kaipat sustained multiple injuries after Dela Cruz allegedly beat her up and choked her with a PVC pipe at his residence in Kagman.

Dela Cruz, 28, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. He posted bail.
