Woman, boyfriend face criminal charges
The Attorney General’s Office yesterday filed with the Superior Court criminal charges against the woman and her boyfriend who allegedly attacked and threatened to kill her own mother.
Both defendants—25-year-old Zinita Arlene Cabrera John and 29-year-old Jack Ngiraibuuch—face charges of criminal mischief and interfering with a domestic violence report.
CNMI chief prosecutor Jeffrey Moots also charged John and Ngiraibuuch with assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon, respectively.
Moots lodged the first two charges against the defendants for allegedly breaking several things inside the house of John’s mother, Ana Babauta Mangohig, such as kitchen plates, glass window louvers, and a wooden shelf.
The defendants also allegedly grabbed the telephone from the mother when the latter was attempting to call the police. Moots said the defendants damaged the phone to prevent the victim from calling the police.
Moots charged John with assault and battery for pushing her mother, while Ngiraibuuch faces a count of assault with a dangerous weapon for allegedly threatening the victim’s life with a knife.
Police earlier said that the incident occurred at the victim’s house on Oct. 20 after an altercation between John and her mother. Police had said that the mom advised John to have her boyfriend clean up his mess inside the victim’s house, but the daughter accused the mother of disliking her boyfriend. John began throwing things inside the house and, together with Ngiraibuuch, hit the mom’s head with a picture frame.
Lawmen reportedly recovered two sticks of marijuana from the defendants, but the AGO has filed no drug charges against them.
