Covenant Party candidates expect a landslide victory on Rota, following its motorcade and political rally on that island Saturday, which it claims to have drawn more than 1,000 people.

The party’s mayoralty bet, Joseph Songao Inos, estimated that about 60 percent of Rota’s 1,500 registered voters joined the political campaign.

Inos said some 248 cars joined the motorcade out of Rota’s 400 registered vehicles.

“It’s a historic day today. People are gathered together—not only from the Covenant Party but also other people,” Inos said Saturday via radio. “We have no reason to doubt that victory is for the Covenant Party.”

The motorcade began at about 3pm from Songsong Village and ended at about 5:30pm at Sinapalo Village, according to reelectionist congressman Crispin Ogo.

The party’s gubernatorial candidates, House Speaker Benigno Fitial and Vice Speaker Timothy Villagomez, led candidates and supporters in the motorcade and political rally.

Former Senate president John Demapan, the party’s Washington Representative candidate, was overwhelmed with the big turnout of supporters in Saturday’s campaign, calling it as a “big celebration.”

Saipan Mayor Juan Borja Tudela, who seeks reelection under the Covenant Party, joined the Rota campaign Saturday to express his support.

Besides Inos and Ogo, the party’s candidates on Rota include senatorial bets Jovita M. Taimanao and Felix T. Mendiola.

All Rota candidates under the Covenant Party recently submitted themselves to voluntary drug-testing that yielded negative results. The party’s Rota candidates challenged their opponents to do the same thing to show that they are drug-free and are of sound mind. (John Ravelo)
