The Department of Lands and Natural Resources and the Saipan and Northern Islands Soil and Water Conservation District, in coordination with the Northern Marianas College Cooperative Extension and Education Services, are hosting a workshop for farmers who need assistance in the proper management of their pig waste products.

The events, dubbed simply as Waste Management Workshop, would be held this Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, from 6pm to 8pm at the Northern Marianas College CREES Building F.

“You will have the opportunity to learn and apply best management practices in making the most of your pig’s waste product,” according to organizers.

The workshop is expected to discuss the benefits farmers are expected to get from proper waste management. Organizers promise that applications would lead to reduce labor and time invested. It also promises to decrease water bills as well as provide farmers a valuable by-product in the form of compost, which improves plant productivity and recovers the cost of feeds.

“Please make time out of your busy schedule to come and attend this very important workshop,” organizers said.
