SML Fall a go after all
After twice postponing the start of the SML Fall League due to a lack of participation, the kids with the knack for knuckleballs will finally get their chance to play this weekend at the Kan Pacific Baseball Field in Marpi.
According to league coordinator Tony Rogolifoi, the SML Fall League was destined for the scrap heap because representatives failed to follow through on their initial statements of interest, but the league was saved by the bell over the weekend as the Pirates, Hustlers, San Roque D-9ers, and Tanapag came through for the kids.
Local legends will be guiding the teams this season as the SML’s most valuable player from the regular season Tony Celis will manage the Hustlers, SML championship co-MVP Craig Sanchez will manage the Pirates, Ben Tenorio will lead the D-9ers from the dugout, and Ben Camacho will manage Tanapag.
The good news for the kids is also good news for the CNMI baseball program as the SML Fall League can keep the future all-stars in practice for the 2006 Micronesian Games in the north end of Saipan while Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field receives a much needed face lift.
The action gets underway this Sunday, Oct. 23, when the Hustlers take on the D-9ers in the season opener at 10am, followed by the Pirates return to the SML when they challenge the team from Tanapag.
