Aranda still on top of Rotary scoring
Hot shot Rowell Aranda of the Southern Sonics continues to be a force on the offensive end and held on to the top spot of the scoring race in the ongoing 2005 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League.
Based on statistics provided by the Division of Sports and Recreation, which organizes the league, Aranda has already torched the nets of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium for 186 points. Although his point total is lower than several players, what makes Aranda standout is that it took him fewer games to reach the mark as his total points is only based on seven games, which results in an impressive average of 26.5 points per game.
Most recently, Aranda pulled out all the tricks in his big scoring bag and tormented the Bwibwiis for an incredible 51 points last Thursday.
The Sonics are one of only two teams that have remained undefeated in the season and sport an 8-0 mark.
Still holding the No. 2 spot is Chalan Kanoa Saints guard Luis Reyes, who is a big reason why his team remains over the .500 mark with a 5-4 card. The veteran has lit up the scoreboard for a league-best 202 points in nine games for an average of 22.5 points per outing.
San Antonio Sixers I teammates Manuel Ajoste and Kevin Cequena are right by each other in the third and fourth positions, with Ajoste drilling in 201 points in nine games for an average of 22.3 points per game and Cequena going off for 154 points in just seven games to average 22 points per outing. The two are big pieces of the Sixers I puzzle, leading their team to an 8-2 record.
Pistol Pete Iguel is currently tied with Cequena in the scoring race and has seen action in just six games. The Garapan Rollers I captain has 132 points in his name, averaging 22 points each game. G-Rollers I is the other undefeated team in the 18-and-under cagefest.
Posting the sixth best average is San Antonio’s Josh Sablan, who played a big role in his team’s hard-fought bout against the Sonics last week by tossing in 41 points. Sablan is currently at 199 points and has suited up in 10 outings for an average of 19.9 points a game.
Toyota Camry guard Jeff Deleon Guerrero follows as the speedy cager is currently at the century mark—100 points. He averages 16.6 points per game, taking part in just six contests.
Rounding up the double-digit scoring leaders is the Sonics’ Jack Lizama, who worked his way for 90 points in seven games for an average of 12.5 markers per outing.
Jon Lim (9.3ppg.) of Sixers I, Donald Teregeyo (8.7ppg) and Joemar Tumaquip (8.7ppg) of the G-Rollers family, and Adrian Flores (8.4ppg.) of the Sonics round up the rest of the scoring leaders.
Players who played at least six games are included in the scoring race. For more information about the Rotary league, contact Mario Sablan or Jovie Omar at 664-2502.
