Election panel mails 2nd batch of absentee ballots
The Commonwealth Election Commission held its second “absentee ballots mailings” yesterday afternoon at the CNMI Post Office in Chalan Kanoa.
The commission said yesterday’s mailings were absentee ballots for those who applied to vote on Sunday, Oct. 9.
The commission mailed over 300 absentee ballots during its first mailing last Saturday. The batch was for registered voters currently serving the U.S. Armed Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Administrative specialist David Blanco and data entry clerk Jermae Cabrera led yesterday’s ceremonial mailings.
In a media statement issued yesterday, the commission said it would attempt to mail the absentee ballots twice a day—once in the morning and once at the close of business.
“There will be no mailings on weekends,” the media release noted.
Earlier the commission informed registered voters who will be away from the Northern Mariana Islands on Election Day that they need to apply to vote by absentee voting if they want to participate in the November poll. The commission will only send ballots to those who apply to vote by absentee voting.
Individuals who registered to vote from outside the Northern Mariana Islands and who will be away from the islands on election day would still need to apply to vote by absentee voting in order to be provided a ballot that they could cast and return by mail to the commission’s mailing address.
All requests to vote by absentee voting must be completed and submitted to the commission by Oct. 26, 2005. Applications to vote by absentee voting may be downloaded and printed at http://www.votecnmi.gov.mp/downloads/absentee_ballot.pdf and the application may be sent to the commission by mail or by facsimile.
Anyone requiring more information on any election matter is asked to call the commission at 664-VOTE or by email to cec@saipan.com or info@votecnmi.gov.mp.
