Preparations for Micro Athletics Championships continues
Preparation for the much-anticipated 2005 Micronesian Athletics Championships continues as officials of the Northern Marianas Athletics organization work relentlessly in hopes of making sure everything will be ready for the competition.
With that, the NMA will hold an important meeting tomorrow at 6pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room to discuss and review important matters regarding the hosting of the event, which will be held on Dec. 14 and 15 at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field facility.
According to NMA president Kurt Barnes, preparations are going as planned and should be all in place by the time the over 100 athletes arrive.
“So far things are okay and going smooth,” Barnes said during an interview yesterday. “I think we’ll be ready.”
Expected to give the CNMI team run for their money are delegations from Guam, Palau, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, and Kiribati.
NMA officials will also determine when the next qualifying trial for the CNMI’s team to the Championships will be during the meeting.
The first trial was held on Saturday, Oct. 1 with Darrel Roligat, Julie Tokyo, Norico Jim, and Champ Untalan, among others, making their presence felt.
Meanwhile, officials are reminding those interested that the NMA logo contest in search of a new image for the organization.
The logo should incorporate the full name of the federation—Northern Marianas Athletics—and the winning submission will receive $100.
The deadline to submit entries is 5pm on Oct. 17.
The logo must be resizable and no larger than 5”X5.” Entries can be submitted via email or CD-ROM. A half page explanation of why the artist thinks the image should be used must be submitted along with the logo.
Shortly after the deadline, the NMA board will convene and decide the winner. An announcement of the winner will be made no later than Oct. 31.
All entries will become sole property of the NMA and the logo selected will be used in multimedia such as web, print, clothing, and signage, to name a few.
