Several of Saipan’s fitness buffs will have an extra week to recuperate from yesterday morning’s 9th Annual Rota Fiesta Half Marathon, as the Northern Mariana Islands Triathlon Federation announced that it will push back the final event of the Enticer Series by an extra week.

Citing scheduling conflicts with next weekend’s Club at the Hyatt Golf Classic and numerous activities with the newly formed Northern Mariana Islands Football (Soccer) Association, race coordinator Sue Knecht announced that Saturday’s event has been moved to Oct. 22.

“Most of the people either volunteering or racing cannot make the Sprint/Enticer on Oct. 15, and there were way more conflicts on the 15th than the 22nd,” said Knecht.

The race that had previously been slated for an evening start is now ready for the early risers as the first swimmers will take to the water at Pau Pau Beach at 8am, with registration between7am and 7:45am.

The rookies return to the lagoon for their toughest test to date during the 600m swim, and once out of the water, the budding triathletes will transition to the 16km bike course that will lead them down the winding Marpi roads and back to the parking lot. From there the swimmers-turned-bikers will transition to the run’s 4k course.

All of the distances are doubled from the second race, and the NMITF has a tune-up event for those looking for a little more of a challenge in the form of a double-sprint distance race. The swimmers will spend a little more time in the water during the 1,200m course and will double the Enticer distances by taking two loops on both the bike and run courses.

The cost to participate in all of the Sprint/Enticer races is $5 for NMITF members and $10 for non-members. The cost of an annual membership is $25. To pre-register for the races, send your intentions to sueknecht1@yahoo.com.
