CRMO fines watersports firm, allows business to continue
The Coastal Resources Management Office has fined a watersports company for failing to comply with the agency’s order to temporarily stop watersports operations.
But the CRMO rescinded its preliminary decision to revoke BenKi Marine Sports’ permits to conduct marine sports activities and banana boat operations.
“Because CRMO discovered that BenKi Marine Sports was still operating the marine sports activities even after being informed to cease all operation, CRMO decided to levy a $300 fine, which [the company] agreed to pay within two weeks,” said CRMO director Joaquin D. Salas in a letter to the company’s Vicente M. Concepcion.
Salas told Concepcion that the company has until Oct. 14 to settle the fine.
Salas said, though, that he rescinded the revocation notice earlier sent to BenKi after the company submitted to the CRMO a previously deficient requirement, a copy of its business license. The company submitted a copy of the business license Monday.
“One of the reasons that CRMO took into consideration and decided to rescind the revocation notice was the fact that your business license certificate was issued since Sept. 9, 2005,” Salas said.
“If [the company] had furnished a copy of the business license the week when the license was issued, the Sept. 30, 2005 letter [permit revocation notice] would have been avoided from being issued to your company by CRMO,” he added.
