MHS student joins DC youth law forum
Marianas High School’s Kelvin Jorge C. Rodeo has been accepted to join more than 300 students across the nation in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law in Washington, D.C.
The MHS junior will represent the CNMI at the event, which will be held from Nov. 8 to Nov. 13.
NYLF/LAW director Vicki M. Richardson said Rodeo would have ample opportunity to meet and network with several highly successful attorneys and trailblazers in the legal profession.
“These leading professionals are very interested in speaking with and providing guidance to future lawyers,” said Richardson.
Rodeo said the forum would be a “powerful experience in a motivating and challenging environment.”
The 16-year-old added that the activity would be a life-changing experience for him. “Attending this program will enable me to develop my leadership skills and reach my career goals,” he said.
Rodeo will be exposed to different events such as mock trials, Supreme Court simulations, training seminars, site visits to the U.S. Supreme Court and other federal and state courts, shadowing attorneys at work in government offices, private practice and public interest law, lectures from panel discussions with many leaders in the legal community, and opportunities to visit famous Washington monuments and museums.
Rodeo, son of Annie and Elvin Rodeo, was selected for his academic achievement and co-curricular capabilities. He currently maintains a Grade Point Average of 90.25 percent. He is an active member of academic and non-academic organizations like the Friends of the Arts, Saipan Pacific Winds Band, National Forensic League, International Thespian Society, Radio Club, Japanese Club, Teen Talk, and StuCo. Rodeo was also included in last year’s Who’s Who Among American High School Students 2003-2004.
