The Attorney General’s Office lodged criminal charges against a man who was earlier released from custody despite facing drug charges, on the condition that he would cooperate with lawmen in anti-illegal drug operations.

CNMI chief prosecutor Jeffrey Moots said 56-year-old Jose Santos Castro failed to cooperate with law enforcers, asking the Superior Court to revoke the defendant’s release.

Moots filed with the Superior Court Tuesday a criminal information charging Castro with trafficking and illegal possession of marijuana.

He accused Castro of intentionally growing approximately 60 marijuana plants on Saipan.

Authorities released Castro following his arrest last April 13, after the defendant requested for the release by volunteering as confidential informant to aid law enforcement.
