A little more than a week after receiving honors for their efforts competing in the waters of the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool, the athletes of the Saipan Swim Club are preparing to show their stuff to their new found friends from across the Philippine Sea as a contingent of tankers from Japan are coming to the Marianas.

According to SSC coach Michael Stewart, the “Goodwill Open” will take place this weekend as the Japanese irrigation delegation will train side by side with the pride of the CNMI in a friendly competition this Saturday, Oct. 8, at 8:30am.

The visitors are expected to arrive tomorrow and they plan on wasting little time as they will take to the water for a training session at 3:30pm alongside the SSC senior and junior teams.

After working up an appetite in the aqua, the strokers will enjoy a small welcome dinner poolside at the Marianas Resort Spa which is hosting the swimmers coaches and families. The SSC’s guests will return to the pool the following afternoon where they will get a taste of Stewart’s famed “Animal Ball”.

When the games get under way, the two teams will compete in nine individual events and two special combined relays consisting of two swimmers SSC and two from Japan joining forces in mixed competition.

“I would like to thank both Hiro and Yuko Kimura for start the ball rolling and organizing this fun event. This is this group’s first visit to Saipan, and I hope it becomes a regular thing for us to host more and more teams,” said Stewart.
