Culture in the Law forum tomorrow
The NMI Council for the Humanities wishes to invite the general public to a community discussion entitled “Culture in the Law: The Marianas Experience” that will be held tomorrow, Oct. 4, from 6pm to 8pm at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center.
The event, which will feature a roundtable panel discussion moderated by Lillian A. Tenorio, will explore the interaction of the indigenous cultures with the American legal system. It is intended to provide the opportunity to examine, discuss, and better understand the uniqueness of the Chamorro and Carolinian cultural traditions and their place in the Northern Mariana Islands today.
Panelists include Viola Alepuyo, Jesus Borja, Dr. Debra Cabrera, Lorenzo DLG Cabrera, Joseph James Camacho, Dr. Rita H. Inos, Rexford Kosack, Edward Manibusan, Lino M. Olopai, and Howard Willens.
Following the panel discussion, the audience will be invited to ask questions relating to traditional cultures and the Commonwealth’s legal system.
Culture in the Law is a part of the Council’s “Law and the Community” series sponsored by the Humanities Council, the U.S. District Court, and the CNMI Bar Association. Call 235-4785 for more information on this and upcoming council programs. (PR)
