G-Rollers I, Sixers I show no mercy in Rotary blowouts
The Garapan Rollers I and San Antonio Sixers I continued to charge up the charts in their campaign to be the No. 1 team in the ongoing Saipan Rotary Summer Youth Basketball League Tuesday evening at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The G-Rollers were relentless throughout their curtain raiser bout against newcomer and sister-team Capitol Hill Breeze, and by the time the final buzzer sounded, the team had sent an exclamation point with a 111-27 victory.
The G-Rollers entered the hard court with a fury and quickly put the contest in their favor. With everything going their way on both ends of the floor, the G-crew managed to light up the scoreboard with a whopping 46 points while frustrating Breeze and limiting them to just nine points in the first half.
The high scoring session carried over to the second half as the veterans of the league continued to pound away, working their magic and giving each of their supporters something to cheer about.
The team doubled their first half performance and outscored their opponents, 65-18, in the last 20 minutes to leave with the jaw-dropping 84-point victory margin while preventing any of their opponents from breaking into double figures.
Pete Iguel led the G-Rollers with 19 points, while Joemar Tumaquip and Keoni Chariton pumped in 17 and 12 points in support. Kevin Aldan was also superb as he added 11 points.
In the second game, the Sixers I put on a show and taught sister team Sixers II a thing or two with a merciless 114-76 victory.
Like the G-Rollers, the Sixers I ran on all cylinders in the opening half, throwing everything but the kitchen sink at their opponents for a 50-29 advantage at the break.
It was cruise control from there as the Sixers I widened their lead and strolled to the 38-point win.
Guard Manuel Ajoste continued to put up impressive numbers and led seven Sixers I players in double figures with a game-high 22 points, 14 of them coming in the first half. Kevin Cequena added 21 points while the one-two punch of Jason and Jeff Bahillo added 13 and 11 points.
