A prayer vigil for CNMI soldiers who have been deployed to Iraq drew a hundred supporters last night for a Mass and a march for peace and safety.

Family members of the U.S. Army Reserve’s Echo Company 100 Battalion 442nd Infantry Division converged last night at the Kristo Rai Church to mark the one-year anniversary of the deployment of CNMI soldiers to Iraq and to pray for the troops’ safety. Rev. Ryan Jimenez led the Eucharistic celebration.

Military and Veterans Affairs executive officer Ruth Coleman said she joined the prayer rally to pray also for the safety of the three CNMI soldiers who will leave the island for Iraq next week. The three are Fabian Indalecio, John Blas and Harley Erich.

The three soldiers joined their families and other supporters for a procession from Kristo Rai Church to the Bank of Guam intersection and back.

Marites Yumul and son DJ joined the vigil last night to pray for the safety of her husband, Rep. Ray N. Yumul. She said she and her son always pray for the good health and safety of her husband.

She said she joined the vigil also to pray for the other soldiers who are on missions in different parts of the world.
