Notorious copper wire thief Shabbo C. Sablan was slapped yesterday with a six-month prison term, this time for kneeing his common-law wife in the face and punching her in front of their two children.

The 22-year-old Sablan pleaded guilty to assault and battery and criminal contempt as part of a plea bargain.

Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Sablan to 18 months in prison, all suspended except for six months, with credit for the time he has been in jail since Feb. 11, 2012.

Once he gets out, he will be placed on probation for three years. He was ordered to pay a $200 fine, $25 court assessment fee, plus probation fee. He was also required to perform 100 hours of community service and write a letter of apology to the victim.

The Office of the Attorney General alleged that, on Feb. 11, 2012, on Saipan, Sablan punched the victim in the head, kneed her in the face, and put her in a chokehold-all in front of their two children.

The OAG noted that Sablan has an extensive juvenile criminal record, highlighted by convictions for theft, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace in 2003 and burglary and assault and battery in 2006.

The OAG said, that in 2009, Sablan was charged with criminal mischief, theft, and conspiracy.
