The Department of Public Safety is stepping up its efforts against drunk and drugged driving this holiday season. DPS Commissioner Ray Mafnas said they have already begun their 3D campaign, urging community members to “think twice” if they are going to drink and drive.

“It’s extremely important that we observe this law. It could be very costly to the public. We are asking everyone to support the national campaign against drug and drunk driving,” said Mafnas.

He also urged the community not to let family and friends drive drunk.

“If you are in a situation where you feel you will be intoxicated, we will be providing a number to call and we will come and pick up the individual requesting for assistance. That’s the best we can do,” he said.

Lucy Omar, 3D Committee designated driver, said that several businesses and individuals will be donating the use of their vehicles to support this campaign. They are Islander Rent-A-Car, Microl Toyota, Alamo, Hertz, and Leilany Castro.

The 3D hotline number is 483-RIDE (7433). (Clarissa David)
