A heated argument between two men Sunday ended up with one man getting stabbed in the back and the other one sustaining bruises in the face and head. The one who got stabbed, however, was able to return home after being treated, while the one who was merely beaten up is now at the local hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David said the two men, aged 35 and 25 years old and whose identities were not disclosed, are now considered suspects in each other’s assault. He declined to provide details, however, why the one who was merely beaten up seemed to have sustained more serious injuries.

David said during a news briefing yesterday at the DPS commissioner’s conference room in Oleai that an unidentified female had called DPS 911 at around 2:10am on Sunday and reported a disturbance at the residence of a certain Rogolofoi in Chalan Kanoa, District 4. David said police officers immediately responded and went to the scene.

The police, said David, learned that the two men, both Palauans, have been arguing, when the first suspect asked the other if he wanted to be stabbed.

David said the second suspect backed away upon hearing this but the first suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed the other in the back. David did not specify in which part of the back the man was stabbed but an independent source said the knife merely glanced off the man’s upper back, causing a shallow laceration.

Upon being stabbed, the second suspect turned around and fought with the other suspect, David said, resulting in the first suspect sustaining multiple bruises on his face and on the head.

Police brought both men to the Commonwealth Health Center for treatment. The man who was stabbed was treated and allowed to go home while the other man was confined and is now being observed inside the ICU.

David said the two suspects have not been arrested yet; the DPS crime investigation unit is still looking into the case, he added.
