Inspector training begins at PIC
The four-day Basic Inspector Training Course began yesterday at the Pacific Islands Club Saipan.
Instructors, Robert Caplan, Norwood Scoot, and Donald Gipe expect the 42 participants to engage in the hands-on training as well as participate in the field exercises.
Participating in the training are seven representatives from Guam Environmental Protection Agency, three representatives from the Republic of Marshall Island’s Environmental Protection Agency and a representative from Palau Environmental Protection. Representatives from CNMI’s own Coastal Resources Management and Division of Environmental Quality comprise the remaining number of participants.
Day one of the training focused on federal statutes and regulations and its relationship to those of the CNMI and Guam. Participants learned more about the role of the inspector and enforceability of regulations and other requirements.
Topics such as interviewing, evidence collection, inspection documentation, and enforcement process will be addressed later in the training. On Thursday, June 30, participants will have field exercises, one of which will include a hands-on how to conduct a site inspection.
DEQ currently conducts inspections at various business establishments, including but not limited to golf courses, hotels, farms, recycling centers, grocery stores and restaurants.
All participants who complete the training will be certified inspectors.
The four-day training will conclude on Friday, July 1. (PR)
