Woman allegedly attacks boyfriend
The Superior Court ordered a woman to have no contact with her 67-year-old boyfriend beginning Monday, after police lodged criminal charges against her for allegedly attempting to stab the sexagenarian with a knife inside his Saipan apartment.
But Associate Judge David Wiseman reduced the $10,000 bail he had imposed on 35-year-old Xia Tang, setting the amount at $5,000 during Monday’s bail hearing.
Wiseman scheduled Tang’s arraignment on July 11, when she would enter her plea to charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, burglary, criminal mischief and disturbing the peace. The judge appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Tang in court proceedings.
Based on an affidavit by police detective Andrea C. Ozawa, the victim, Lafe Fraley, was inside his apartment last Saturday when the defendant came banging the door. The victim reportedly told police that he saw Tang with a knife, cutting the window screen. He attempted to stop Tang, but she crawled into the apartment and threw a television set to the floor.
Ozawa said Tang attempted to stab Fraley, but he managed to hold on to the woman. Tang then grabbed Fraley’s necklace and broke it off, after which she went out of the apartment and threw away the necklace and knife in the dark.
