Fresh from the success of its 8-Ball Amateur Tournament, Top Pool Bar is now planning to host an open 9-ball competition.

Top Pool Bar manager Zheng Jian Qing said he is thinking of holding the open 9-ball competition on weekends at the billiards hall, which is found at the heart of Garapan, a stone’s throw away from the Paseo de Marianas.

Zheng said pool competitions on island have been on a downturn lately and he wants to revive the popularity of the sport.

He said the Friday all-amateur billiards night was a resounding success, drawing a number of up-and-coming players to Top Pool Bar. Zheng, however, admitted that he got calls from pool veterans clamoring for an open competition.

The 9-ball open tournament would most probably be held on Saturdays with 8pm starts. Zheng said the maximum number of participants would be 16 and entry fee would be $15.

He said the champion of the weekly 9-ball event could possibly have a win-fall of $120 plus a trophy, while second place and third place could bring home as much as $80 and $40, respectively.

The still unnamed 9-ball billiards competition is open only to players 18 years old and above. Zheng said he would not discriminate against any player and would welcome anyone to play in the open format.
