Municipal council honors US Army’s Joseph Flores
The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council had adopted a resolution commending U.S. Army Sergeant Joseph Reyes Flores for “his bravery, courage and determination to uphold the U.S. Armed Forces’ goal to secure peace, freedom and democracy in Iraq.”
Flores enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 2000, and was assigned to the HHC 2nd of the 63rd Armor, 1st Infantry Division. He was deployed to Kuwait from November 2001 to May 2002, Kosovo from October 2002 to June 2003, and Iraq on February 2004 to February 2005.
In Iraq, Flores graduated top 10 (Commandant’s List with a 96.4 GPA) at the primary leadership development course. Flores is a petroleum specialist/squad leader.
Flores is a recipient of the Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Metal, Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, War on Terrorism Ribbon, Southwest Asia Ribbon, Kosovo Campaign medal and Soldier of the Quarter 2001.
Flores is the son of proud parents John Torres Flores and Ladonna Reyes Flores.
“The members of the municipal council and the people of the CNMI join the family members in their prayers to our Almighty Lord to bestow unto the members of the U.S. Armed Forces serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and other dangerous posts eternal safety, security and successful mission in securing global peace, freedom and democracy for all races and ages.
“The members of the municipal council join the people of the CNMI in extending special recognition, congratulation and commendation to…Flores for safeguarding and protecting the lives of his fellow Americans,” the resolution said.
The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
The CNMI men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces who were wounded or killed in action in Iraq, Afghanistan and other dangerous posts include U.S. Army sergeant Yinjyh “Eddie” Lang Chen, 1st CNMI casualty in Iraq; U.S. Army Sgt. William Ayuyu Sakisat Jr., wounded in Afghanistan; U.S. Army Spc. 4 Monique Guerrero Sablan, wounded in Iraq; U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Randy Takai Johnson, wounded in Iraq; U.S. Army Sgt. Nazario San Nicolas Borja (Tinian), wounded in Iraq; U.S. Army Spc. Gregory Cabrera Cing (Tinian), wounded in Iraq; U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Dustin M. Pangelinan, wounded in Iraq; and U.S. Army Sgt. Jason D. Hensley, wounded in Iraq.
