Six teams advance to 25-and-under playoffs
Only six of the seven teams competing in the BANMI 25-and-under Basketball League advanced to the playoffs, which will unfold on May 30, according to league officials.
Pennant champion Toyota Prius, SaipanCell-NMC Hoopaholics, San Antonio Wildcats, Ulloa’s, G-Rollers, and the Ghasias 7-Kings each earned slots and each moved one step closer to accomplishing their goal of taking home the coveted championship crown.
A meeting was held Tuesday evening at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room to discuss the format of the playoffs, however, a decision has yet to be made.
According to BANMI official Elias Rangamar, the format may be double elimination depending on available funds, which will used to compensate officials—referees, scorers, and timers.
He said he would await the return of fellow BANMI official Mike White to determine if funds available can compensate the double elimination format.
If funds are insufficient to hold a double elimination, the league will hold single elimination playoffs with a best-of-three championship series.
White is expected to return from a off-island trip late this month.
All in attendance at the meeting agreed to begin the playoffs on May 30, giving all teams sufficient time to tune up and put on the final touches to their strategies for the electrifying round.
The 25-and-under regular season will come to an end this week with only make up games remaining. The Hoopaholics and G-Rollers were scheduled to battle last night and were not done as of press time.
The Hoopaholics have a lock on the second seed, while the G-Rollers, currently in fourth, can move up the charts with a win.
