The Libweiirs!! handed the Beach Side Rockers their first loss of the season and preserved unbeaten streak to three games in Thursday night’s finale on the sand courts behind the Pacific Islands Club to wrap up the second week of action in the 6th Annual Coor’s Light Four’s Beach Volleyball League.

Led by team captain Jazz Rosokow, the Libweiirs!! got the final match of the night started off on the right foot with an 11-5 win in the first set. Mili Saiki played strong for the undefeated squad, and ended up playing all three games without a substitution. Linda Anastacio of the Beach Side Rockers did the same, and her efforts contributed to their rebound in the second set that evened the game at a set apiece.

The Rockers got plenty of inspirational play from front man Bruce Berline, as well as from Jon Cramer in the 11-7 win, but their success did not carry over in to the third. Rosokow was all over the court for the Libweiirs!!, contributing with a combination of sets, spikes, and dinks to clinch the set and game, 11-5.

With the win, the Libweiirs!! kept pace with the L.L. Sleese Staks to maintain a share of first place at 3-0. Both of the clubs have won eight sets apiece, and while the Libweiirs!! hold a 97-95 advantage in points scored, they allowed 51 to the Sleese Staks’ 49. If the teams continue their winning ways, all eyes will be focused on their match on Thursday, May 26, at 5:30pm.

In the first game of the night, Dale Roberts and the Air Biscuits notched their second win of the season by sweeping the winless Crashers 11-6, 11-3, and 13-11. After dropping their opener to the Small Hustlers, the Biscuits let loose back-to-back wins in which they outscored their competition a combined 63-46.

They return to face the Smackers next Tuesday, May 17, at 8:30, who also have a 2-1 record after sweeping their way to their second win by sucking the life out of …But We Don’t Swallow.

With more than half of their players hailing from the PIC, the Smackers showed up to the court en masse to face the winless non-swallowers, as Eddie Kim and company outscored the competition 33-7 through three sets.

With the game in hand, Mark McDonald of the Smackers put on a display of trick serves and head sets to add some levity to the landslide. Despite the loss, …But We Don’t Swallow remained in high spirits, and one onlooker said that they could change their name to …But We Don’t Wallow.

The Small Hustlers earned their third win of the season in the remaining match of the night over Ganbarimasho, but they needed all three sets to do so. After dropping a close first set 11-9, the Small Hustlers dealt Ganbarimasho a lethal one-two punch with an 11-5 win in the second and an 11-7 win in the third to remain a half game behind the leaders at 3-1.
