The Northern Marianas Football Association is continuing its mission to offer the world’s most popular sport to the youth of the CNMI by calling for all interested coaches, officials, parents, and volunteers to join their organization’s members during their meeting next week.

Peter Coleman said he has been working closely with several members of the community to fill the gap that was left when former CYSO organizers moved off island and to provide others with an organized outlet in which to play and enjoy the sport of soccer.

The next step in the process begins next Tuesday, May 17, 5:30pm at the Azucena room of the Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach, when NMFA will host anyone interested to participate in their meeting.

“We plan on providing all with a general overview of the league, announce the important dates for the registration, player evaluation, and team selection,” said Coleman

Though the new league is aimed toward co-ed participants between 5-16 years of age, NMFA will not be limit to youth soccer if there is a call from the community.

“If there is enough interest, there will also be a male and a female adult league,” he added.

While organizers aim toward getting the program off and running as soon as possible, Coleman said that they are already planning ways to get assistance from off-island groups that routinely support new associations in order to build a solid program.

“We are excited about this new league for many reasons. One that comes to mind is our affiliation with the Federated International Football Association—a worldwide organization dedicated toward the promotion of soccer in both amateur and professional arenas,” he said.

Time is of the essence, as Coleman is shooting to have most of the process finalized before school lets out for the summer break, and before families start taking their vacations.

“The primary purpose of the meeting is to get a hold of people before school lets out and people leave the island for vacation and to let them know that there is a league, we are playing, and we’ll be playing by the end of September,” he said.
