While fathers, sons, and daughters made the most of their time last Sunday by paying homage to all women who have earned the title of mother, a handful of colorful assassins made the most of their rights to bear arms on Tinian by taking part in the 2nd Annual San Jose Paintball Tournament.

Last Sunday, the four-man force of Team Hard Corps swept through the Hornet’s Nest battlefield, making quick work of Team Kolokoyz and the Axis of Evil, as Robert Hazlett, Tom Aguon, John Pino, and Joe Ocampo fell just three points shy of completing a perfect score in the tournament.

In this brand of paintball, the combatants are forced to strike quickly to achieve their goals behind a limited amount of cover and concealment due to the abbreviated seven-minute session.

“It was great. Everyone liked the field—they kept saying how much they liked it. I put a lot of work into it,” said tournament organizer Skip Hall.

Only three teams answered the call of duty, as Team Kolokoyz, the Axis of Evil, and Team Hard Corps competed in the tournament for the high score, bragging rights, and the $525 in prize money.

When the teams met upon the field of battle, they had seven minutes to annihilate their opponents, capture the enemy flag, and return it to their base of operations. Using a professional scoring system, each kill is awarded with seven points to the assassin, while three points are awarded for each surviving member of the team. The first team to secure the enemy flag is awarded 20 points, and an additional 50 points for hanging the flag in their base camp.

Team Hard Corps took the battle to Team Kolokoyz right from the start by eliminating their foes in the field and completing all objectives to earn a perfect score of 100-0. They experienced similar success in their second mission when they locked and loaded their markers and took aim at the Axis of Evil.

The Corps subdued all but one of their enemies but was still able to complete their objectives by snatching and hanging the rival flag, while ensuring the safety of all friendly forces to win a one-sided 97-7 campaign.

Team Hard Corps continued their shock-and-awe campaign in their third fire mission, as they scored another flawless victory over the Axis of Evil, 100-0. The win gave them 197 points overall and secured the top spot in the tournament as well as the $300 purse.

Hazlett said that one of the reasons why his team was able to succeed is because their squad has a pair of former U.S. Marines, and superior equipment.

“They were using rental markers and we used our own weapons,” said Hazlett, who runs Hard Corps Paintball Supply on Beach Road in Chalan Kanoa.

Nino Evangelista, Aaron Guiao, and Ronaldo Dalisay of Kolokoyz finished the day in second place and bagged $150 in cash for their efforts, while Melvin Sakisat, Peter Sakisat, Julian Sakisat, and Carl Cepeda of the Axis of Evil walked away with $75 for third place.
