BOE panels meeting today

The CNMI State Board of Education members will be attending a joint committee of the BOE standing committees on fiscal, personnel and administration and Capital Improvement and PSS Property today, May 12, 2005, at 10:30am, at the PREL Conference Room (Building H of the Marianas High School). The two committees will deliberate on the feasibility of schools in northern Saipan.

A BOE quorum may be present at this meeting. This meeting is not designed to be a regular or special meeting of the board and no action will be taken. Although the meeting is not designed to be a meeting of the board, a quorum may be present to participate in the discussion.

DPS checkpoints tomorrow, Tuesday

The Department of Public Safety’s Traffic Section will be conducting occupant protection and child restraint checkpoint and sobriety checkpoints on Friday this week and Tuesday next week.

The occupant protection checkpoint will be conducted on May 13 on Beach Road, Garapan by Bank Pacific. This will start at 3:30pm and will finish at about 4:45pm.

Another occupant protection checkpoint will also be conducted on 2W Highway Puerto Rico by Army Reserve on May 17. This will begin at 9am and will end at 10:15am.

DPS’ Traffic Section will then conduct sobriety checkpoints on May 13. The first setup will be on Beach Road Chalan Laulau by Chars Mart. This operation will start at 10pm and end at 11:15pm.

Each checkpoint conducted will last at least 75 minutes at each location.

In addition, the DPS traffic officers will be performing highway criminal interdictions, saturation patrols, aggressive driver interdictions, and laser activities.

Talent search program orientation set

The Educational Talent Search Program of the Northern Marianas College is informing all parents and legal guardians of the summer participants that there will be a parents/students orientation on May 27, Friday, 5:30pm, at the Educational Talent Search Center located at the NMC campus, Building “S”.

Reminders to FRG members

The Echo Company 100th Battalion 442nd Infantry Family Readiness Group is informing all families of its soldiers that Sunday, May 15, is the Volunteers Appreciation Luncheon at the Army Reserve Center, Puerto Rico, Saipan. The event will start at 4pm.

Also, a reminder to all the FRG Leaders that there will be a Leadership Meeting tomorrow, May 12, 7:pm, at the Reserve Center.

Scholarship deadlines

The 2005/2006 application forms for the Educational Assistance Program and the Public Law 14-37 are now available.

Those interested are urged to visit the CNMI Scholarship Office at Building No. 1311 on Capitol Hill or visit their website at www.cnmischolarship.com.

“We urge those desiring to pursue a postsecondary education to start early in submitting the application and supporting documents,” the office said in a statement.

Deadline for the P.L. 14-37 Scholarship Application and all supporting documents is June 30; for the EAP Fall 2005 (application only is due) for those who did not submit an application for Fall 2005, deadline is on July 1.

Chacha Oceanview PTSA meeting

This is to inform all parents, guardians, and the general public that the Chacha Oceanview Jr. High School will be having a Parents Teachers Students Association meeting on Thursday, May 12, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. We will be discussing matters such as the eighth-grade promotion ceremony, mid-quarter progress report distribution, schedule for the last day of school and others.
