Hotel Nikko Saipan launched a project Monday to replace the hotel’s hot water and sewer pipes to improve its water service for in-house guests and visitors.

Department of Public Works Secretary Juan S. Reyes witnessed the blessing ceremony, which was held at the Hotel Nikko Saipan’s repair shop in San Roque.

Executive vice president Hideo Nishigori said they want to improve the delivery of hot water to all rooms because, at the moment, hot water sometimes takes up to 20 seconds or more to come out of the faucet in some rooms. With the upgrade in the system, he said this will result in hot water immediately reaching the room once a guest opens the faucet.

He said Hotel Nikko will be investing at least $800,000 for the replacement, which is expected to be completed in November this year.

When the project is completed, the contractors would have replaced a total of 13,200 linear feet of pipes, said Nishigori.

“The hot water pipe replaced will be 11,000 feet and the sewer pipe will be 2,200 feet, which is a little bit over 2 miles in length,” said Nishigori.

He said they plan to continue the renovation of the hotel, phase by phase.

He said metal pipes would be used, as required by U.S. regulations for buildings that are more than four stories high. Nishigori said they use fiber plastic pipes for their water system in Japan.
