KES, SCS take top honors in 11-and-under
Third of five parts
Many had their shining moments in Saturday’s McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championships, and the Koblerville Elementary School girls and Saipan Community School boys in the 11-and-under divisions made sure they were among that select group.
KES got another huge lift from a hard working 10-year-old Reylynn Sapong and took home four gold medals and a bronze, while getting another top 6 finish to edge the field with 47 points. SCS, meanwhile, ruled the boys corner with three gold and three bronze for 48 points.
Placing second and third in the team competition for the girls were Dandan and San Vicente elementary schools, with DES earning 40 points on a gold, two silver, a bronze, and top 6 and SVES getting two gold, a silver, and two top six.
Whispering Palms School and Tanapag Elementary School took second and third in the boys division, with WPS getting a gold, two bronze, and three top 6.
Doing all she could for her school, Sapong took credit for all four gold medals.
The sprinter first raced to a first place finish in the 100m dash, completing the task in 14.98 seconds. She was followed by Nicole Reyes of DES (15.84) and Lia Rangamar of Grace Christian Academy (15.99).
Sapong then topped the 200m in 32.32 seconds, while Maxina Ulloa of TES (33.51) and Rangamar (34.04) placed second and third.
Sapong solidified her dominance on the rubber track when she captured her third gold of the day, winning the 400m in a sterling time of 1:18.97. Rangamar (1:20.36) finished a close second, while Christa Ching of SCS (1:23.39) took the bronze.
Sapong also competed in the long jump and again made her supporters proud with a winning jump of 3.49 meters. Rangamar (3.45) and Alma De Guzman of DES (3.39) were close by.
For his part, En Hong Pang provided the spark for SCS, taking the gold in the 400m, 800m, and long jump.
Pang was far ahead of the competition and crossed the finish line of the 400m at 1:04.01, 12 seconds in front of the next finisher. Douglas Dillay of TES (1:16.67) and Ryan Baron of WPS (1:17.50) settled for silver and bronze.
Earlier in the day, Pang ran on all cylinders and strolled to victory with a 2:36.54 in the 800m. He was followed by TES teammates Peter Lieto (3:12.09), and Angel Santos (3:18.42).
Pang’s jump of 4.53 meters was also gold material in the long jump, while Paul Dabu of WSR (3.35) and Kai Staal of WPS (3.3) followed.
Other gold medallists in the boys division were Albert Bahillo of DES in the 100m, Samuel Mosley of Saipan International School in the 200m, Baron in the 1,500m, and Tim Rabago of SIS in the softball throw.
Meanwhile, female gold medalists also include Mary Star Welch of SVES in the 800m, Julycia Borja of Tinian in the 1,500m, and Lana Seman of DES in the softball throw.
