Man’amko help ARC celebrate Mother’s Day

Over 800 guests packed the Aqua Resort Club last Sunday as the Achugao hotel celebrated Mother’s Day with a program that included an orchid show and a special brunch.
Aqua Resort was so full that aside from its main banquet areas—Costa Terrace and Raraina restaurants—it also had to open Rey Lounge and Vino Bar to diners. The hotel also said they had to decline reservations because of the influx of guests.
But the highlight of the Mother’s Day Special Brunch was a fashion show by the man’amko, who gamely strutted their stuff on the catwalk garbed in traditional Chamorro, Palauan, Carolinian, Filipino, and even Arabian outfits.
Office on Aging director Joseph Palacios said the man’amko really prepped themselves up for the fashion show. He said he was grateful for the recognition the community gave to the elderly especially on the occasion of Mother’s Day.
Emilio Ayuyu, who directed and choreographed the show, also serenaded guests with local music.
Aside from the fashion show, the man’amko also presented dance numbers to the delight of everyone in attendance. Walter Manglona hosted the fashion show.
Marianas Variety also took center stage, awarding the winners of its “My Mom’s Story” competition to junior and senior high school students.
Laila Y. Boyer gave prizes to first-place winners Laura Lee of Marianas Baptist Academy and Leticia Cabrera of Kagman High School. Mothers of both students accepted the prizes on behalf of their children.
Boyer said the students’ write-ups containing beautiful and inspiring stories about how they appreciate and love their mothers captured the hearts of the panel of judges.
Guests included a number of government officials and staff, and local businessmen dining with their families. Aqua Resort also raffled off some prizes to the guests.
Aqua Resort sales and marketing director Dorina Gabutero said it was great to gather local guests in a celebration that also happened to pay tribute to the man’amko.
Aqua Resort’s Mother’s Day Special Brunch was in cooperation with MARPAC Distributors.
