When it gets this close to the end of the school year, children oftentimes find themselves counting the days until they can trade their books and homework for bats and balls, and the Division of Youth Services and the Sports and Recreation is more than willing to lend helping a hand.

The annual Summer Youth Sports Camp is about a month away from getting back in the swing of things this year, where once again they will teach the children about athletics, sportsmanship, and friendship.

All of the fun of the three week camp gets started on Wednesday, June 13, and will continue through to Friday, July 1, and aside from all of the hands on activities, the children will listen to presentations given by representatives from Northern Marianas College-Cooperative Research Extension and Education Service, the Brown Tree Snake Task Force, and the Department of Public Safety, to name a few.

According to camp coordinator Joey Dela Cruz, this year’s activities include basketball, tee-ball, volleyball, soccer, bead making, weaving, paddling, swimming, dancing, and music among others, and each of the participants will also receive a midmorning snack.

The camp will run Mondays through Fridays between the hours of 7:30am and 11:30am. Each child will be under the watchful care of certified instructors who are well versed in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation or CPR.

The cost to enter a child in the camp is $20, and a maximum of 200 kids are permitted to attend, so parents are urged to register their kids as soon as possible at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium in Oleai.
