The American Memorial Park Bookstore is hosting for the first time an event that offers great deals on store items and gives customers a chance to have their purchased book or artwork signed by the author or artist.
“Artist Night” is scheduled next Wednesday, Dec. 21, from 4pm to 7pm.
The book and art-signing event is an idea that the new bookstore manager, Rhea Richardson, came up with and organized with administrators in Guam and Hawaii to promote the store’s merchandise and the Park’s amenities, said Park Ranger Susan Fishman-Tudor.
Fishman-Tudor said they invited several local authors and artists for the “Artist Night” where they will have the opportunity to meet with those who bought their works and sign them.
The invited authors and artists include retired chief justice Jose S. Dela Cruz, Lino Olopai, Joe Weaver, Greg Elliott, and Jung Ae Lee.
“We have a lot of good products at the bookstore that people don’t realize are for sale,” said Fishman-Tudor.
The bookstore also has an ongoing promotion where patrons can avail of 15 percent discount on all regular-priced items. Other items at the bookstore such as books, CDs, stuffed animals, maps, and military insignia are already on sale, she said.
Fishman-Tudor said their merchandise at the bookstore are great gift ideas and stocking stuffers for the holidays.
The holiday sale, which began on Dec. 14, will run until the end of the month. “This promotion is also our way to give back to the community,” she said.
Besides the bookstore, guests can avail of other services at the park, which include a museum exhibit and free movie presentations.
“People can bring the whole family here and learn about their own history,” Fishman-Tudor told Saipan Tribune.
She urged the community to check out the American Memorial Park and the various items that the Park bookstore offers.
“This park exists for the people. It commemorates the fallen civilian and military population during the invasion of Saipan. It’s a living memorial so I hope they visit us and learn more about the history of the islands,” said Fishman-Tudor.
The American Memorial Park is open Monday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm except on Christmas, New Year, and Thanksgiving. For more information, call 234-7207 ext. 2020.
