Wild Bill’s and Inter Godfather’s will dispute the championship in the 2011 NMIFA Men’s FA Cup, following their separate semis wins last Sunday at the Oleai Sports Complex.
The first finals berth went to Wild Bill’s, which beat Paire Football Club, 4-1, while Inter Godfather’s notched the second and last championship ticket after a 3-1 triumph over MP United A. The winner-take-all finals will be played this Sunday at 3pm after the 12pm consolation game between Paire and MP United A.
Wild Bill’s had a weeklong break before playing in the semifinals and the lull seemed to affect the team’s tempo, as it went scoreless in the first half. Paire was the first team to break into the scoreboard, courtesy of Steve McKagan’s goal in the 58th minute.
Paire retained the lead until midway in the second half before Wild Bill’s players started getting their acts together and scored three goals in a span of eight minutes. Jeeraphong Thoensaket broke the ice for Wild Bill’s, making his first goal in the 75th minute. Four minutes later, it was Adul Detdon’s turn to score to put Wild Bill’s in the lead and Thoensaket made it a 3-1 advantage when he found the back of the net anew in the 83rd minute.
After grabbing the lead, Wild Bill’s protected the driver’s seat by playing solid defense against Paire and the former capped the come-from-behind victory with Tanapon Unsa’s goal in the closing minute of the second half.
In the second semis game, Masatoshi Otsuka duplicated Thoensaket’s feat, drilling twin goals for Inter Godfather’s. Otsuka put Inter in the scoreboard with his goal in the 25th minute, while Matthew Holley upped the lead to 2-0 when he scored in the 34th minute. Then at the end of the first half, Inter Godfather’s lead was sliced to one, 2-1, as MP United A’s Moon Bin Hong made a goal in the 38th minute. Hong was the lone player to score for MP United A, as his teammates continued to struggle in the second half, while Inter Godfather’ drew one more goal from Otsuka in the 76th minute.
This weekend’s championship showdown between Wild Bill’s and Inter Godfather’s will feature the top teams in the elimination round. Wild Bill’s reigned supreme in Pool A of the 10-team FA Cup after posting a perfect 4-0 win-loss record, while Inter Godfather’s ruled Pool B with similar unbeaten card.
Wild Bill’s went on to advance to the semis after thumping Korean Football Association on Saipan on Nov. 27, 3-1, while Inter Godfather’s marched to the Final Four following a 2-1 victory over Tan Holdings FC.
