Tee-ball, Minor League, girls softball mulled by Little League
The Saipan Little League, under its new president Joe Salas, is exploring the possibility of starting tee-ball, Minor League, and girls softball programs for the upcoming 2005 season.
For this purpose, the association is calling a special meeting this Saturday, Jan 29, 3pm-5pm at the amphitheater of the American Memorial Park.
The meeting is being held to specifically gauge interests in the three new programs proposed by the leadership of Saipan Little League.
“The purpose is to determine the level of interest in starting a tee-ball program for kids five to eight years old, a Minor League baseball program for kids nine to 10 years old, and an all-girls softball league for girls ages 11 to 18 years old,” said a media release from the Saipan Little League.
The current Little League format allows children from the ages nine through 12 to compete in the Little League “Majors” category. Saipan Little League also said that currently there are no formal tee-ball, Minor League, or all-girls softball programs on Saipan.
According to the Saipan Little League, the proposed girls’ softball league could have Major (ages 11 and 12), Junior (ages 13 and 14), Senior (ages 15 and 16), and Big League (ages 17 and 18) categories.
“If enough interest is shown for these three new programs, then the [Saipan Little] League will consider starting them.”
Interested parents and children, who want to participate in a future tee-ball, Minor League, or girls softball program, are requested to show up at the AMP Amphitheater on Saturday on the designated times.
If parents and their children are unable to attend, they can still express their interests by contacting the Saipan Little League, through its president Joe Salas, at 322-3444, or Paul Baron at 322-7814 or 483-7815.
