Vehicular mishap results in fatalities
At least two persons were reportedly rushed to the hospital early Saturday morning following a vehicular mishap at the Chalan Monsignor Guerrero on Saipan, which stalled normal traffic flow for more than four hours.
There were reports that the accident, which involved a gray pickup truck and a sedan, resulted in the death of two persons. Rumors circulating around the island said the fatality includes a teenager.
The Department of Public Safety, however, has yet to confirm the reports. DPS spokesperson Eric David could not be reached for details as of press time.
The incident happened around 2am Saturday. The front portion of the pickup truck was totally wrecked, indicating the strong impact of the collision. Motorists could see crushed portions of the truck scattered on the road.
Police cars that responded to the scene blockaded the road to traffic, at times allowing motorists to take turns in passing through one lane. Police later closed the road to vehicular traffic, directing motorists going to and from the direction of Dandan to detour.
Around past 6am Saturday, police were still in the process of totally clearing the road to vehicular traffic. (John Ravelo)
