The governor did the right thing in vetoing budget
The reasons for the veto of the budget for fiscal year 2005 is not alarming since the governor threatened its veto if sufficient funding for the PSS, DPH, and DPS is not considered. These are all essential services for the people and we feel that these three government agencies should be considered a priority.
The 13th Legislature, under Speaker Hofschneider, approved the budget with barely enough for these agencies to work with. Now this 14th Legislature, under Speaker Fitial, finally buried the hatchet because the figures are still too low. Since the governor vetoed the bill on Jan, 12, 2005, he sent a message to Ben & Tim caught looking up to the heavens saying, “Whoops, the budget was vetoed.” With the government now operating under continuing resolution, there is not much for the government to work with.
I hope that my message will not hurt anyone or create ill feelings against this writer. Since this is an election year, Ben Fitial is facing an uphill battle against the current governor. Likewise, Heinz Hofschneider will have a hard time convincing the people because he cannot consider the Legislature as is.
Yours Truly,
