Obyan Beach gets new safety sign
The Marianas Visitors Authority, in coordination with the Department of Lands and Natural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation, recently installed a parking sign board at Obyan Beach advising visitors to park at the designated (paved parking) area.
“The purpose of the sign board is to inform tour operators, dive operators, independent tourist and our locals to avoid the risk of having their vehicles burglarized or vandalized by parking at the designated area instead of the old parking area near the WWII bunker,” said MVA managing director Vicky Benavente.
According to MVA, the security guardhouse that used to be at the WWII bunker has been moved to the paved parking area, where more vehicles could be accommodated. This will give the security guard more visibility over parked vehicles and the ability to better monitor vehicles coming in and out of the area.
“Ever since MVA’s field operations transferred to the Division of Parks and Recreation, the MVA lacked the manpower to put up sign boards, such as directional, safety and caution sign boards, but thanks to Parks and Recreation we are able to coordinate with them in having sign boards made or repaired and installed in a timely manner,” said Benavente.
She said that, even though the MVA is not directly mandated by its current by laws to provide sign boards, “we are making every effort to help when ever our financial resources allows us. This is just one way that we are cooperating with other government agencies to make our islands safer for our tourist.” (PR)
