The Public School System and the Board of Education office will get a service vehicle this week, said Board of Education chair Roman C. Benavente. This was confirmed by the Governor’s Office, saying the service car will be used to assist PSS and BOE in their daily operations.

Gov. Juan N. Babauta confirmed that his office will provide one service car to PSS and the BOE, saying that Benavente and vice chair Dino Jones had approached him and lobbied for the service car. The governor then forwarded their request to the Office of Management and Budget to look for possible funds. OMB then confirmed that funds have been allocated for this request.

The vehicle was promised by the governor almost six months ago.

“This is really vice chair Dino Jones’ effort to help our office,.I want to recognize him for this,” Benavente said.

They will be visiting the CNMI budget office to check on the vehicle.

According to Benavente, it took them a while to acquire this vehicle because of funding problems. Officers and staff of BOE have their own cars but as for the office itself, Jones felt the need to have an official service car for their day-to-day operations.

Benavente said he is still grateful for the governor’s assistance with regard to this matter. “There’s good intention in whatever he [governor] is doing.” (Marconi Calindas)
