No Ka Oi is No Ka Oi
After watching the Master Construction Flyers win their fifth game of the day against the Brotherhood, No Ka Oi stretched out their legs and dusted off their bats to down the upstarts to win the 3rd Annual Crime Stoppers Softball Tournament for the second time in three years.
John Reyes and company proved to have too much power for the Flyers, as No Ka Oi was on the smiling end of the 18-13 affair to become the only two-time winner of the tournament.
After starting the tournament with a first-round bye for winning the inaugural tournament, No Ka Oi finished what they started, as they exterminated every team that crossed their path. The Flyers were merely the final step along the road to the championship for No Ka Oi, as first on the list were the Expos, who were quickly sent to the losers bracket following a 13-1 beating. Next up were the Duty Free Shoppers, who were bagged 15-5, followed by the Brotherhood, who received no brotherly love in their 13-10 match with the champs.
Along with the $250 for finishing the tournament in first place, No Ka OI was the first recipient of the newly fashioned perpetual trophy. Organizers have also given a nod to the previous winners, as No Ka Oi (2002) and Brotherhood (2003) had their names affixed to the trophy as well.
The Flyers did not walk away from the tournament empty handed, as they took home the second place trophy and $200, while the Brotherhood went home with a trophy and $150 for the second runner-up.
The Flyers may have begun to show the effects of a long day under the sun, as they hung tight with No Ka Oi until they ran out of gas in the end. After starting the tournament with an 18-8win against the Bad Boyz, the Flyers lost to the defending champion Brotherhood, 9-6. The Flyers bounced back in the losers bracket with a 20-14 win over Fotten Gaga, and advanced to the finals of the losers bracket when they edged the Mid-Pac X-Clusive 11-8.
The Brotherhood joined the Flyers in the losers bracket finals when they lost to No Ka Oi in the final game of the winners bracket, 13-10.
The Brotherhood held an advantage as they headed into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Flyers rallied back from their deficit to pull off the unlikely come-from-behind 23-22 victory.
