Nominees for biz executive of the year named

Guam Business magazine announced yesterday the 11 nominees for 2004 Guam Business Executive of the Year.

They are:
* Lucy M. Alcorn, president and chief executive officer of Global Food Services and Facilities Management;

* Mark W. Chamberlin, president of Guamcell Communications and Saipancell Communications;

* Joey Crisostomo, owner and president of Cars Plus LLC and Cycles Plus LLC;

* Walter B. Dias, staff vice president of sales and marketing for Continental Micronesia;

* Joseph “Jerry” Kramer, chief executive officer of Pacific International Inc.;

* Joseph D. “Joey” Lopez Sr., manager for No Ka Oi Termite & Pest Control (Guam) Inc.;

* Monty A. McDowell, chief executive officer and principal broker for Advance Management Inc.;

* Mathews Pothen, president and chief executive officer for Guam Industrial Services Inc., which does business as Guam Shipyard;

* Alan R. Seid, chairman of the board of Micronesia Investment & Development Corp.;

* Jerry Tan, executive vice president of Tan Holdings Corp; and

* Hidenobu “George” Takagi, president of Takagi & Associates.

The 22nd Guam Business Executive of the Year will be announced at the gala on Jan. 22 at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa, which several hundred people are due to attend. The theme of the evening is “The Apprentice.” Hosts for the evening are Ray Gibson, Newstalk K57 morning show host; Travis Coffman, host of K57’s “The Big Show;” and Alberto C. “Tony” Lamorena V, general manager of the Guam Visitors Bureau.

The first quarter 2005 issue of Guam Business, with the Executive of the Year on the cover, will be unveiled that evening.

“We would like to congratulate the 2004 nominees, and thank them for their support of the event, and the Guam chapter of the American Red Cross,” said Stephen V. Nygard, publisher of Guam Business. “We understand the interest that this program generates in the community, but once again, the name of the winner will be held secret until the evening of Jan. 22.”

Despite attempts each year to discover the winner, the name of the Executive of the Year is closely held by Guam Business, and staff at the magazine.

The 2004 Executive of the Year will join 20 other leading members of the business community in Micronesia. They are Robert H. Jones, president and chief executive officer of Triple J Enterprises Inc., 1983; John. M. Borlas, president of IT&E Overseas Inc.; Philip J. Flores, president and chairman of BankPacific, 1985; Doris Flores Brooks, public auditor of Guam, 1986; Mark V. Pangilinan, president of MVP Enterprises Inc., 1987; Allen A. Pickens, coordinator and training coordinator for Tax-Aide, 1988; T. Roy Sullivan (deceased), executive vice president of Jones & Guerrero, 1989; Kurt S. Moylan, president of Moylan’s Insurance Underwriters Inc., 1990; Akira “Mike” Baba, president of Baba Corp., 1991; Paul M. Calvo, president and chairman of Calvo Enterprises Inc., 1992; Antoinette D. Sanford, president of the Sanford Technology Group, 1993; Kenneth T. Jones Jr., president of Jones & Guerrero Co., 1994; Edward M. Calvo (deceased), first vice president of Calvo Enterprises Inc., 1995; L. Carl Peterson, owner and president of Money Resources Inc., 1996; William R. Thompson, president of the board of Aon Micronesia, 1997; John K. Lee, senior vice president of First Hawaiian Bank, 1998; Henry L. Schnabel, vice president and consultant to Calvo’s Insurance Underwriters Inc., 1999; Marian Aldan-Pierce, president of DFS Saipan, 2000; Manfred H. Pieper, general manager of the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa, 2001; Thomas G. Ahillen, general manager of Matson Navigation Co., 2002; and Juan T. Guerrero, president of Herman’s Modern Bakery Inc., and president of Juan T. Guerrero & Associates Inc., 2003.
