Two games less than 24 hours apart, no problem.

Tinian improved its record to a game above .500 after beating Procurement & Supply Friday night and Office of the Public Auditor Saturday the following afternoon in the 2004 Government Basketball League at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

In other games, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs nipped Department of Public Safety I in the first game Friday and Commonwealth Ports Authority routed Saipan Mayor’s Office in the curtain raiser Saturday.

Tinian began its two-day visit to neighboring Saipan on a high note, as they bulldozed past an underachieving P&S squad, 105-75.

The 30-point route actually didn’t happen until the payoff period, as P&S managed to stick around before Tinian pulled out all the stops in the fourth and final quarter, outscoring their opponents 39-10.

Beefy Keith Nabors scored 33, including 13 in the fourth, to lead Tinian. Center Fritz San Nicolas also came away with 20 in support.

Bull-strong Jack Palacios led P&S in the loss with 27 points, while playmaker Frank Iglecias added 14.

The ballers from the south got the party going the next day, this time setting season-scoring highs in their 149-62 romp of OPA, who dressed just five players.

After a 32-12 opening quarter, Tinian suddenly waxed hot from all angles and entered the break on top by a whopping 45 points, 72-27.

The island made famous as the take-off point of the Enola Gay then let it all hang out in the third, racking up another big fat 35 to extend their lead to 105-40.

It was like professionals playing against kindergarten kids in the final 10 minutes, as Tinian even threatened to beat OPA by 100 points before slowing down in the final couple of minutes.

San Nicolas and Nabors banged in 39 and 31 points, respectively in the win. Peter Manglona also frolicked from everywhere finishing with 29 and Ton Borja chipped in 19 in the victory.

Robert Torres and Cris Camacho tried to hold the fort but to no avail and finished with 23 and 15 in the lopsided loss.

In DCCA’s win, reserve Mario Sablan hit one of two free throws with 20 ticks left and his teammates forced league-leading scorer Elias Saralu into a difficult shot in the next possession in their 90-89 victory.

CPA, meanwhile, got season-highs of 41 from Edgar Pangelinan and 29 from Mel Tagabuel as the team finally played up to expectations, defeating the Mayor’s Office 112-83.
