Sporting events were as scarce as finding The Incredibles action figures in toy store shelves the past week.

But that doesn’t mean the week of Dec. 17-24 was bereft of exciting action as the Refaluwasch Golf Association and Top Pool Bar held their yearly championships.

On Saturday, Mario Taitano emerged victorious in the RGA Club Championship held at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort Saipan west course. He bested the likes of 2003 champion Sasaki Oliver and Suva South Pacific Games veterans Jess Wabol, Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho, and Eddie Peter.

Roger Espiritu, meanwhile, proved that he’s still the meanest pool player around following his victory in the Top Pool Bar $1K 9-Ball Tournament that ended in the daylight breaking hours of Monday. The man they dub “The Ghost” defeated Vic S. Hocog in the race-to-seven finals.

Last week also saw action continue in the 2004 Government Basketball League, and both the fast pitch and slow pitch varieties of the Island Wide Softball League. Local track and field athletes also came home from their stint in the Oceania Open and Under 18 Area Championships in Australia last Monday.
