Students from Northern Mariana College’s Nursing Club and the NMC Student Council donated several boxes of goodies to Karidat yesterday afternoon to benefit the victims of Supertyphoon Chaba.

The donated items contained clothing, old and new toys, accessories, shoes, personal hygiene goods and many others.

Karidat director Angie Guerrero said she is grateful to all who helped support the club’s good cause.

“I really want to thank the students and faculty members who have contributed to share the spirit of gift-giving,” Guerrero said. She affirmed that “action truly speaks louder than words” and expressed hope that people will continue to practice the value of sharing with the less fortunate.

Led by Trina Sablan, vice-president and spokesperson of the club, the group came together with fellow club officers such as Pete Pangelinan and Agatha Katebang to turn over the donations to Karidat.

The NMC Nursing Club, under the supervision of Cindy Tice, launched the month-long drive to gather and collect donations from students, parents and faculty members.

“We plan to make it a tradition,” said Sablan.

The club said that they will continue to accept donations through Tice at 234-3690 local 1614 or 1615.

Also yesterday morning, Wells Fargo dropped their donation boxes at Karidat. (Wells Fargo has been helping Karidat for more than five years now.) Teachers from Hopwood Junior High School and the Dolphins Junior ROTC had also brought their gifts and donations to Karidat this week.

Guerrero said the distribution of these gifts to children is set for next week since Christmas is already around the corner. Karidat will have to be quick in sorting these presents appropriately but the distribution will have “a more personal touch.”

She shares that Karidat will invite the parents of the children to pick up the gifts themselves at her office. Though problems may arise regarding arrangements for these parents, Karidat will still find means of delivering these gifts to the children on a personal basis, she said.
