Though many players were not up to par, many participants of the Tinian Mayor’s 2nd Annual Perpetual Cup Golf Tournament went home with a wealth of golf experience after the competition held last Saturday, Dec. 11, at Laolao Bay Golf Resort Saipan.

Conditions were close to perfect as players shot for not only the best overall score but also closest to the pocket on selected holes and, not known to anyone until the reception, most strokes overall.

Mike Cruz won first place and was hailed as champion of the Tinian Mayor’s 2nd Annual Perpetual Cup Golf Tournament. Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho finished second, followed by Joe Limes. Ben Jones and Tony Benavente complete the Top 5.

In the nearest-to-the-pin contest John Mettao collected the prize on hole No. 3, Mr. Fung bested everyone on the 7th hole, Benavente reigned supreme on the 12th hole, and Cruz swung it the closest on the 17th hole. Kimberly King, meanwhile, was queen of the highest amount of strokes contest.

Event coordinator Ray Dela Cruz, executive director of Tinian Promotions, presented the prizes and trophies to all the winners.

The venue for the reception was held at everyone’s playground in paradise, the spacious ballroom of the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino.

With nearly all the players taking advantage of the treats that came with joining the event—all expenses paid transportation on the Saipan Express ferry, free dinner with all the trimmings and all-you-can-drink beverages, one-night stay at the Dynasty Hotel and, last but not least, an opportunity to play and win in the casino.

All players agree that this was one tournament that they look forward to because of all that comes along with the participation.

Special thanks to the following for making this event possible; Tinian Mayor’s Office, Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino, Marianas Visitors Authority, Miller Light, Laolao Bay Golf Resort Saipan, Verizon, FPA Pacific Corp., Tinian Municipal Council, Tinian Joint Legislative Delegation, and Seabridge Inc.
